Univ. of Washington
I currently work at the University of Washington's Clinical Trial Center (UWCTC). I moved to Seattle for working here as a Software Engineer, but after a year I was promoted to being the Data Operations Manager. In short, I manage the people and projects that have to do with our software, technology, and website as they relate to collecting data for our research.
The UWCTC is the Data Coordinating Center of the Resuscitation Outcomes Consortium (ROC). ROC is a clinical trial network that focuses on research in the area of pre-hospital cardiopulmonary arrest and severe traumatic injury. ROC provides project support an enduring infrastructure that allows studies under our management to gain major efficiencies in their set-up, conduction, and conclusion.
ROC is a leading-edge organization to work for. We have the world's largest data registry of pre-hospital cardiac arrest and life-threatening trauma. When studies are managed by our group, it is seen as a major plus by funding agencies such the NIH.
Technology that we use here, especially for our in-house electronic data capture system mainly consists of Perl/Mason+MySQL for our web applications, served by Apache on a Linux server.
What draws me to this job is the application of my relevant skills to help medical research that has a direct effect on saving lives. Here are some outcomes of our research:
- "New CPR Procedures Save Lives" - Feb 2011

The Search Agency
Prior to moving to Seattle, I worked for a few years at a then-startup, search engine marketing/optimization company The Search Agency as a Software Engineer.
Here, I mainly worked on the algorithms for optimizing keyword bidding by using various techniques such as neural networks, decision trees, swarming, and on-the-fly regression analysis. Since we worked with massive amounts of data from Google, MSN, and Yahoo, I learned a great deal about high performance database design and querying.
Univ. of Rhode Island
During grad school, I worked at first as a web developer and then as the technical manager of the URI Web Development Group. The WDG was a self-sustaining organization under the school's IT department that provided web development services internally for URI organizations or externally for education-affiliated clients.
